But more than anything, I want to thank the developers for making this amazing technology available for us all to use – for free!

Good luck with maintenance! Tineye has helped me track down a good 2500 stolen photos, artwork, and the like (including my own) since its inception and with a list of 500 to check this weekend, it was soon to make 3000.

Downtime is unfortunate, but understandable. I’ll be patient and save my huge art theft search for next weekend ;) Thanks for everything you guys do!

In this world, the odds are the same as the sun rising every day in the east. You could say I jumped to conclusions without understanding either side, I’ll even say I expected you to say something in that area. Although, I cannot for the life of me figure out why, given you know absolutely nothing about my capabilities or me. Here’s another conclusion I’ll jump to for you: idée operates the following five companies on the Internet (see below) and I’ll guess, with the exception of TinEye, there is a charge to use them. Perhaps, given it is the freebie of the bunch, TinEye is not the highest priority at idée these days. Being a programmer for high availability services, you assuredly already thought of that. I suppose what irked me about your comment enough to make one of my own was that you could have easily contacted idée and offered the services you so graciously listed for me, not posting anything. No harm, no foul, or did you feel it was your duty to point out the slackness and unprofessionalism of an act of downtime on the Internet.

I actually kind of agree with what Joe Smith said about sites going down. Sure, I’ve seen some sites go down for several hours at a time, but I’ve never seen a site go down for more than a day. Here is a suggestion. Perhaps you could do weekly maintenance on the server which would last an hour or two, rather than doing maintenance once a year (or however often you do it). And please don’t say I’m whining, I’m just surprised that this site has been down for so long. Sites that I have seen which have been down for this long are usually due to suspended accounts or something like that. Anyway, I just can’t wait for this site to come back up.

This is the first time I’ve seen Tineye taken down in the 2 years I’ve used the service. It’s one of the best Useful services on the internet and you guys deserve a good rest!

I have to agree with Joe. Having such a service down for several days for “maintainence” is unusual. I assume they are doing a big upgrade.

It is still damaging to their reputation to have the free service down for so long, it gives a bad impression about idee’s ability to deliver their other services in a
consistent and professional manner.

Heh, this downtime points out how much I’ve been using the tiny eye Chrome add-on :P I MISS IT! Hope you get stuff squared away soon.

You may have realised this, but you are dealing with a large corporation, for whom “TinEye” is most likely a marketing initiative. As such, it has resources allocated to it accordingly. When it comes to your “simple” matter of changing servers – did you contemplate the sheer size that would be required for a fast-access image service such as this? This doesn’t involve the purchase of a 1.5 TB hardrive for $120, and as such it’s to be expected that maintenance involves a server downtime. As for Ms. Janette – spare yourself the effort of dealing with unfounded abuse which Mr. Smith so clearly demonstrated. You can’t beat a fool at his own game, because if you try you’ll have to stoop down to his level, and he’ll beat you in experience.

We love Tineye and use it constantly on our site. For those that use it for fake profiles, may I suggest http://www.scamdigger.com as it has thousands of pictures used by scammers in their profiles. It’s obviously nowhere near as powerful as Tineye and far from an alternative, but it’s a useful addition to it.
